"Alchemical Figure is a full-realised recording of the piece Matthew premiered at a live VT in-store earlier in the year. Matthew’s drone formulations draw heavily on Reverse English traditions, using occult site-specific area sonorities as a basis for heady re-statements of smeared, microtone-thick glacial movements. Here he welcomes the spring with a blur of birdcalls giving way to swooning waves of electronics and peaking choral vocals that are as wired to the moon as prime Coil. The whole deal comes wrapped in full-colour artwork by Matthew himself. Recommended."
