Alchemical Figure; Glasgow

about

Matthew Shaw: Alchemical Figure: Glasgow is a beautiful rendering of his building-quaking live show from Volcanic Tongue. Dosing heavy-meta environmental soundings with walls of iron clad drone that dissolve into fluttering soft tones and hallucinatory spectra, Shaw plays electronics and vocals, singing in a dosed, subliminal style over what sounds like a heavenly dawn chorus. As the electronics peak we’re in the realm of a Maryanne Amacher or Kevin Drumm, as tectonic bass work collides with barely-there arcs of orchestral melody. Another triumphal blat from one of the UK headiest drone-thinkers. Great shot of the Sighthill Stones on the cover too.
